Beats & Brews: Jazmine Sullivan

You can’t really be blamed for forgetting about Jazmine Sullivan, 2010s ‘Love Me Back’ was her last project. It wasn’t received as well as her 2008 debut ‘Fearless’ and was followed by a twitter revealed ‘break from music to figure out who she is’. Jazmine is back with ‘Reality Show’ and, Jazmine figured it out.

On ‘Reality Show’ Jazmine shines as both singer and song-writer, with co-writers, she penned each of the projects 12 tracks (or episodes) of the Reality Show.. From bangers to ballads, ‘Reality’ is mature and fun…..and bumpin’.

The Show starts with the Salaam Remi produced ‘Dumb’, as brash and combative as any scene in a reality television show, eerie chants accompany Jazmines parting shot to her unfaithful lover over the fat bottomed cut. The Meek Mill cameo drops as perfect segue.

The first two singles are ‘Forever Don’t Last’ and ‘Let It Burn’ but, don’t sleep on ‘Brand New’, ‘#Hoodlove’, and ‘Stanley’. Very little, if any skip cuts here, and some cuts you’ll want to play back to back…a great choice for travelling with ear buds.

‘Reality Show’ is a solid comeback for Sullivan, You’ll bump this at home, in the ride, not really safe for work, the language is that of reality tv without the ‘bleeps’. It knocks!

The Brew:
Blindfold-Black-IPA
Blindfold (Black IPA)

Sierra Nevada

Bold, hoppy, aromatic classic IPA, strong finishing hops. It’s malty but, not really heavy, you can really sense the roast. Sip slow homie, you don’t wanna slam this 6.8ABV brew…you don’t want to miss the finishing flavors. I’d drop a one or two in my ‘build your own six’.
